War Damage Extends to 14 Heritage Sites in Kurdistan, Including Moshir Divan Mansion

The Deputy for Cultural Heritage in Kurdistan Province announced that the historic Moshir Divan Mansion has sustained structural damage, bringing the total number of affected heritage sites in the province to 14.

Preliminary estimates indicate that the recent conflict has caused between 700 and 800 billion rials in damage to historical landmarks across the region.

Emergency response measures and initial stabilization efforts have already been carried out, while detailed technical assessments and expert council reviews are underway to determine the next phases of restoration.

Officials emphasized that restoring centuries-old buildings is a complex and time-intensive process, requiring precise scientific methods rather than immediate reconstruction.

Particular attention has been drawn to the intricate “Orosi” stained-glass windows found in several damaged mansions, as their traditional wood-and-glass craftsmanship is highly delicate and difficult to replicate.

Current efforts are focused on documentation, structural reinforcement, and preventing further deterioration, especially addressing cracks caused by blast shockwaves.

The Moshir Divan Mansion is the latest site identified with such structural damage.

Other affected sites in Kurdistan include Habibi House, Salar Saeid Mansion (Archaeological Museum), Asef Vaziri Mansion (Kurd House), Khosroabad Mansion, Ayatollah Mojtahedi’s House, Pir Omar Mosque and Shrine, the Grand Mosque of Sanandaj, Malek al-Tojjar Mansion, Sahraei House, Amin al-Islam House, Nosrat Nouri House, Motavasel House, and the Two-Cistern Hammam.
