Michael Mann Honored with Lumière Award and Shares Exciting Updates on Heat 2

At the 17th Lumière Festival held in Lyon, France, iconic filmmaker Michael Mann received the prestigious Lumière Award from actress Isabelle Huppert, joining a distinguished list of cinema legends such as Clint Eastwood, Martin Scorsese, and Quentin Tarantino. In an emotional ceremony, Mann was praised as “a demanding, lyrical, and sensual director” whose work continues to surprise and provoke audiences worldwide.

Expressing gratitude, Mann dedicated the honor to the shared spirit of creating dramatic cinema and the imagination that unites all film lovers. He also shared a personal story about his father, who immigrated to France during World War II, highlighting his pride in attending the festival.

Mann, known for classics such as Heat, Ali, Collateral, and The Last of the Mohicans, also praised the festival for its humanizing celebration of film. During a masterclass, he provided insights into the long-awaited sequel to Heat, stating that production is expected to begin in summer 2026 once negotiations with the actors are finalized.

This year’s festival also featured notable guests including Chinese director John Woo and showcased previews of upcoming films such as Scott Cooper’s documentary on Bruce Springsteen and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankensteininspired project.
